Who'd want the England job? Everyone (then no one).
In many ways it's the best job in Global Football - in others it's a poison chalice. As the bookies sharpen their chalk for odds on who's next into the breach, might it be time to pause for breath and think bigger picture?
Perhaps it's too much for one figurehead and we aren't thinking smart enough. When you look at the shortlist - it's clear that England, whilst rich in player talent now, has a dearth of success in the domestic or European Games.
Drawing on insurance's principles, perhaps the FA should create a "Coach Board" and invite ALL the English coaches in the top two tiers.
Each is seconded to take sessions, guide and support the "England Way" under the in-game tactics set by the Head Coach - someone with less profile, like Carsley.
We feed "England Way" across the entire game's coaching structure - so all coaches are vested on what our National Team wants.
We then have a pool of talent, and deep connections to the domestic game - it creates support and aggregates expertise - and there's succession baked in.
Each club gets £750,000 pa for their coach's involvement, incentivising the system to hire domestic coaches more.
The expertise of the many, empowering the one.
